For most travellers, airports are places of transition. At Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, they are destinations in their own right.

Renowned for its spectacular indoor waterfall, immersive rainforest environment and world-class visitor experience, Jewel Changi has redefined what an airport can be. Every element has been carefully considered to create moments of discovery, relaxation and enjoyment for the millions of people who pass through its doors each year. It is this commitment to experience that led to the creation of a bespoke play destination designed specifically for travelling families.

Recognising the important role play can have in transforming time spent waiting into time well spent, Jewel Changi sought a playground that would do more than entertain. The vision was to create an immersive environment that would complement the airport’s iconic indoor landscape while delivering a memorable experience for children and families alike.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding tropical gardens and the imaginative world of pop-up storybooks, Proludic designed and delivered a fully customised play experience that feels as though it has grown organically from the environment around it.

In destinations such as Jewel Changi Airport, play is no longer an add-on. It is an integral part of the visitor experience, shaping how families engage with space, time and travel.

The introduction of a dedicated play environment offers children the opportunity to move, explore and reset during their journey, while also supporting a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for accompanying adults. In doing so, it enhances the overall quality of the public realm within a highly complex and high-traffic environment.

The result is a vibrant rainforest adventure where play and storytelling intertwine.

A themed landscape depicting winding waterways and wetlands sets the scene, inviting children into a world of exploration. Two striking 4-metre-high play towers rise above the space like giant trees emerging from the jungle canopy, creating an unmistakable visual landmark within the airport.

Throughout the space, custom graphic detailing developed through Proludic’s Grafic Games process reinforces the tropical narrative, ensuring the play environment is fully integrated with its surroundings.

Children are encouraged to climb, balance, traverse and discover as they move through a rich variety of play experiences.

Nets, climbing walls, ladders and rope elements provide physical challenges that build confidence and coordination, while observation windows, themed graphics and immersive details stimulate curiosity and imagination. A suspended nest offers a quiet moment of respite before the adventure continues, while a slide provides a thrilling return to ground level.

A smaller crossing structure connects the towers, creating a playful journey across the themed water landscape and ensuring younger children can participate in the adventure.

Throughout the playground, every detail contributes to a cohesive experience that blurs the line between play space and environment. The result is not just a playground, but a destination within a destination.

This project demonstrates how thoughtfully designed play can elevate public spaces, transforming moments of transit into meaningful experiences of connection, imagination and discovery.

At Proludic, we believe great play spaces do more than occupy space. They enrich environments, enhance journeys and create lasting impressions long after the visit is over.
