The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley was awarded a grant from Lottery West in early 2018 for the development of a new playground at Fitzroy Crossing, a remote outback town situated in the Kimberley region approximately 2,524 kilometres from Perth. A playground proposal prepared by Proludic for this project was submitted with the grant application. The client requested play equipment that would connect with the local environment and suit the extreme climate of the North West region.
To help strengthen the community’s connection with the playground, Proludic’s award-winning Grafic Games technique was utilised to apply original artworks to the play equipment. Local children prepared the artworks under the mentorship of their elders and teachers. Proludic’s expertise was then employed to create the finished artistic play equipment items which connect with the local environment and encourage imaginative and social play.
The main feature of the play area is Proludic’s J2771 Croco-themed Multi-Play suitable for children from 4 years old. It includes activities that encourage adventurous play, gross motor development and interaction between children. The Croco was provided with HPL panels to ensure the longevity of the structure in harsh weather conditions.
An inclusive and accessible play area features interactive Play Panels (R34-FIECOCH Rainbow Harp, Z16-3413 Aussie Animals play panel), the J2404 Inclusive Double Tournicoti Carousel, Z16-0409 Double-Bay Swing, the J2614 Custom Jeep and J859 Custom Boat Springer mentioned above.
Other equipment includes sand play equipment with the J5014 Sand Digger and J123 Sieve that encourage sensory play, J16 Tightrope Circuit for balancing skills, J3501 Rodeoboard and J514 Metal Cableway for fun and unique play sensations !
All the materials used guarantee the durability of the play equipment in the extreme weather conditions experienced in the Kimberley. The local community is thrilled with their new playground which is a great addition to Fitzroy Crossing !
Proludic’s partner in Western Australia, Active Discovery, carried out the construction of the Fitzroy Crossing playground.
