East Gippsland Specialist School received funding from the Inclusive Schools Fund to build a new playground for its students. The East Gippsland Specialist School provides a comprehensive and innovative curriculum for primary and secondary students with intellectual disabilities.
Foursight Architects – the architectural firm appointed for this project – worked in collaboration with Proludic to provide an inclusively designed playground so that children with special needs can play, have fun and develop their skills in a safe environment.
Member for Gippsland East, Tim Bull, said that “the school will replace its current playground with a much more advanced facility, which will include a Pod Swing, small trampolines, a water play area and a sandpit and a climbing frame, so it is more inclusive of all students” .
The Principal of East Gippsland Specialist School, Barb Olsen, commented: “It’s a very exciting opportunity for the school to provide appropriate facilities to meet the needs of a wide range of students at our school.”
All the play equipment provided by Proludic includes inclusive design features:
- J33111 Inclusive Vivarea Multi-Play
- J5000 The Sand Factory
- J1705 The Waterfall
- J487 Pod Swing x 2
- J828 Cyclo Springer x 2
- R34-ETP-010 Proludic Inclusive Trampolines x 2
- R34-FIMUBON6 Drum Play Panel
- J3412 Ambulance Play Panel
The installation of accessible rubber surfacing and shade has also been carefully considered to allow for easy access to the play equipment and provide a safe and comfortable place for the students to play together.
