NSW – Inclusive Play at North Steyne Case Study

North Steyne Manly inclusive playground

Inclusive Play equipment can be seen in this beautiful beachfront park. The playground contains equipment accessible to children with special needs: it includes the Wheelspin which is accessible for wheelchairs and other users, a Pod Swing, play panels and a Tubophone. Sensory play environments are crucial to a child’s development. Spinning and moving equipment provides great level of sensory and motor stimulation for all. Play panels include various moving play activities requiring observation, concentration and hand-eye coordination.

Over 25 years Proludic has developed considerable expertise in designing for disability and inclusion. Our approach has been taken further with the Inclusive Play Areas Guide through consultation with other professionals. Together we have identified the specific features and special needs of less able children in play areas and measures that can be taken to compensate for differences and ensure accessibility for all. The Inclusive Play Areas Guide educates designers on the range of disabilities and advises inspiring solutions for creating inclusive playgrounds. The Guide has achieved Good Design ® Award 2016 in the Social Innovation category of the Good Design Awards Australia. Click HERE to learn more about our Inclusive Play Areas Guide.
